Glossary - Snap Ring
A fastener consisting of a semi-flexible metal ring with open ends which can be snapped into place into a machined groove. Snap rings on bearings are located in a groove around the outer diameter allowing the bearing to be locked into position laterally within a housing. Snap rings can also be used in place of circlips on a shaft to locate the bearing (or other components) on the shaft.
